India Gate is counted among largest war memorials in India.

It was originally called The All India War Memorial.

Like the Cenotaph in London, India Gate is a secular memorial.

It is free of religious and culturally specific iconography such as crosses.

India Gate stands at one end of Rajpath.

It is a 42-meter high war memorial.

It Commemorates the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for British Army during World War I.

The Memorial bears the names of 13,516 British & Indian soldiers.

The soldiers lost their lives in the Afghan War in 1919.
It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens.

It is often compared with ‘Arc De Triomphe’ in Paris.

Another war memorial ‘Amar Jawan Jyoti’ was added later.

‘Amar Jawan Jyoti’ means ‘Flame of Immortal Soldier’.

The eternal flame burns day and night.

It is a popular picnic spot among Delhites.
