Gangs of Bollywood
Let's come back to .'Gangs of Wasseypur'. I feel this film caters a specific set of viewers and not meant for all. A strong depiction of mannerism of coal mafia in Bihar is the high point of the film. For the first time a genuine effort has been put to depict the lingo and mannerism in Hindi cinema which was absent in earlier movies of Bollywood.
I feel movies which have a strong background of research and real life inspired stories from regional areas with a national appeal will do better in coming days. Though "Gangs of Wasseypur's" business is not extraordinary but one signal which comes out with this film is that without super stars any film can click on the box office and make money provided it is backed with a believable script and direction. I can't sum up this blog post without writing about this film's wonderful music. Though this is not the kind of the music which can appeal everyone but this has the strong regional flavor of Bihar and people who know this already enjoying it and most of all Sneha Khanwalkar's music has given GOW a rare authentic feel. A must watch for real movie lovers.
Very true. Lovely post and with films such as GOW, I hope Bollywood takes new path that promises us with not only entertainment but admiration too

DeleteAbsolutely agree with you Rajnish. The star cast and direction is par excellence here and my favourite bit about this movie is its music. And thank the lord, we have a female music composer at last, who looks like she's here to stay.
ReplyDeleteWaiting for the August release of part 2.
Yes Suman. It is an excellent film. And I am very hopeful about this remarkably good music composer Sneha Khanwalkar. She is great and even creating great ethnic music in such a tender age. I love the way she experiments with her music and hope that she continue doing do. Thanks for visiting again.
Deleteit an excellent review and indepth view of the film which will help the cine goers to decide on there own rather than pushed to take side by sweet coated words of critics ..............VERY NICE

That is a fairly reasonable analysis, although I'd have preferred better rendering of a few aspects.
