The Magic of Nizamuddin Aulia

Thousands of devotees come here every day to pay respect and seek solace. This is one of the few places in India where people of all faiths are welcome with an open heart. Nizamuddin Aulia Dargah in Nizamuddin West area of New Delhi is also a favourite place for foreign tourists. People love the divine experience inside the Dargah. But what is always a major put off for foreign tourists are overcrowded bylanes and little attention to cleanliness by the shopkeepers as well as civic authorities.

Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia was one of the greatest Sufi Saints (1238-1325CE) of the world. It is the best place to witness Sufi culture and tradition in India. Every Thursday one can listen to soulful Sufi Qawwali music. great poet Mirza Ghalib & Amir Khusro's tomb is also inside the dargah. Though women are not allowed to go beyond the outer verandah, they can peek through the jail and see the grave of the great saint.

Advice for tourists:
1. Though one can visit dargah throughout the year it is advisable to avoid Delhi's extreme heat weather.
2. For foreigners, it is advisable not to be lured by anyone for Dargah tour. Entry into Dargah is free.
3. The nearest metro station is - Jawaharlal Nehru Metro Station
